Power Requirements
The Terrova 80 operates on 24 volts — two 12V batteries wired in series. At full thrust the motor draws approximately 52A. Size your battery bank accordingly: a minimum of two 100Ah AGM batteries is required for a full tournament day; dual 100Ah lithium (LiFePO4) batteries are the preferred setup if you’re running a sonar network simultaneously.
Wire Gauge
Minn Kota requires 6 AWG cable for runs up to 10 feet. If your cable run from the battery compartment to the bow exceeds 10 feet (common in 20+ foot boats), step up to 4 AWG to prevent voltage drop below the 22V threshold that will trigger the low-battery warning and reduce hold performance in strong current.
Breaker/Fuse Requirements
Install a 60A manual reset circuit breaker (or 60A ANL fuse) within 7 inches of the positive battery terminal. Minn Kota recommends a Marinco or Blue Sea Systems breaker — do not substitute automotive blade fuses.
Sonar Integration
The Terrova 80 does not have integrated sonar capability — it’s a dedicated thrust and positioning unit. For sonar, mount your transducer on the trolling motor shaft using Garmin’s or Humminbird’s side-clamp transducer bracket, or use a transom-mounted transducer on a separate cable run. If adding a Humminbird MEGA Live or Garmin LiveScope transducer to the motor shaft, route the transducer cable through the motor’s internal cable management channel to prevent snag and interference.
i-Pilot & Chartplotter Sync
The Terrova 80 with i-Pilot supports Bluetooth pairing with the Minn Kota i-Pilot app (iOS and Android) for smartphone steering and Spot-Lock management. To sync with a Humminbird chartplotter for AutoChart Live integration, you’ll need the Ethernet cable adapter and a compatible Humminbird HELIX or SOLIX unit.

- 24V wiring: Wire batteries in series (+ of battery 1 to – of battery 2; run motor leads to the outer + and outer – terminals). Do not parallel 24V systems.
- Shaft depth: The 72-inch shaft is correct for most 18–21 foot bass boats. Measure from the top of the bow deck mount to the waterline — you want the prop 12 inches below the surface in chop.
- Break-in period: Run at 50% speed for the first 2 hours on the water before using Spot-Lock in strong current. This allows the GPS module to calibrate position hold under real-world conditions.
- Storage: Retract and lock the motor before trailering. The latch pin on the foot pedal stow arm should be fully engaged — road vibration can damage the lower unit if the motor bounces at highway speed.
