Description
The ECHOMAP Ultra 2 166sv is Garmin’s largest-screen chartplotter-sonar combo in the ECHOMAP Ultra 2 lineup — a 16-inch SolarMAX HD IPS touchscreen paired with the GT54UHD-TM transom-mount transducer for CHIRP, ClearVü, and SideVü sonar in a single unit. LiveScope Plus-ready out of the box, it includes a Navionics+ subscription covering 42 million lake and coastal waypoints. Built for serious tournament anglers who want maximum screen real estate at the helm.

Tech-Rig Compatibility & Rigging
Power Requirements
The ECHOMAP Ultra 2 166sv runs on 10–32V DC, drawing approximately 4.2A at 12V (display only). The GT54UHD-TM transducer draws an additional 0.4–0.8A depending on active sonar modes. Run a dedicated 10 AWG circuit from your main battery to a 20A inline fuse at the helm — do not tap into an existing accessory circuit.
Transducer Installation
The GT54UHD-TM uses a standard transom-mount bracket with a 20-foot cable. Keep the transducer at least 18 inches from trolling motor cables and any stringer/bilge pump wiring to prevent sonar interference. Garmin’s puck-style Panoptix mount fits the GT54UHD-TM bracket directly.
LiveScope Plus Compatibility
This unit requires the Garmin GLS 10 Black Box and LVS34 transducer (sold separately, also available as the LiveScope Plus System bundle) to run LiveScope. The 166sv has enough processing headroom to run LiveScope Plus forward, down, and perspective modes simultaneously while maintaining full chart function.
NMEA 2000 & Networking
Add the unit to your NMEA 2000 backbone using a standard T-connector and a single power drop. You can share the GPS position, depth, water temperature, and Speed over Ground data with any NMEA 2000 device on the network — including a compatible autopilot, VHF DSC radio, or second chartplotter at the bow.
What’s in the Box
- Garmin ECHOMAP Ultra 2 166sv display
- GT54UHD-TM transom-mount transducer (20 ft cable)
- Flush-mount and bail-mount hardware
- Power/data cable with 2A fuse
- Navionics+ 1-year subscription (activation card)
- Quick-start guide
Why Tournament Anglers Choose the 166sv
The 16-inch screen is the primary reason. On a large console center-console or a big bass boat helm station, the 166sv gives you a dedicated sonar channel on one side and a full lake chart on the other — both legible from standing height in full sunlight. The SolarMAX HD display hits 1400 nits, outperforming every competing display in the category in direct sun readability. Pair it with a LiveScope Plus bundle and a Minn Kota Ultrex Quest and you have the complete 2026 tournament forward-scanning sonar rig.
Rigging Notes from Our Techs
- Shared power bus: If you’re running multiple Garmin units on a NMEA 2000 network, use a Garmin Marine Ethernet (GME) switch instead of chaining units — it reduces latency and eliminates display flicker during high sonar load.
- Transducer placement: The GT54UHD-TM performs best at 0–3° tilt. If mounted to a non-flat transom, use the included wedge kit to keep it parallel to the waterline.
- Map card: Navionics+ activates automatically when the included card is inserted. Do not remove the card while the unit is on — hot-swap can corrupt the map index.
